HI-AM 2.0 Project Officially Launched
July 22, 2025The second phase of the Holistic Innovation in Additive Manufacturing Network (HI-AM 2.0) was officially announced on July 22, 2025. This five-year national research program will receive $10.9 million in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Mitacs, and over 16 industry and government partners through the NSERC Alliance and NSERC Alliance–Mitacs Accelerate grants. In addition, approximately $4 million in in-kind contributions are expected to be provided by participating organizations over the course of the program. The official launch of HI-AM 2.0 was celebrated during the 2025 HI-AM Conference at the University of Waterloo.

HI-AM 2.0 directors, Professors Ehsan Toyserkani and Mihaela Vlasea, celebrate the launch of HI-AM 2.0 with a cake-cutting at the 2025 HI-AM Conference.
Led by the University of Waterloo, HI-AM 2.0 brings together researchers from 12 leading Canadian universities—Dalhousie University, McGill University, The University of British Columbia, Université Laval, University of Alberta, University of Guelph, University of Ottawa, University of Toronto, University of Victoria, University of Waterloo, University of Windsor, and Western University—to carry out collaborative R&D aimed at advancing additive manufacturing (AM) technologies.
Over the next five years, HI-AM 2.0 will focus on addressing key technical barriers to AM adoption and training the next generation of highly qualified professionals to support Canada’s evolving advanced manufacturing landscape.
